Brookfield Renewable UK Ltd (formerly PNE Wind UK) has joined forces with two East Ayrshire primary schools to help pupils transform their gardens and learn about important environmental issues.
The support has enabled both Littlemill and Ochiltree primary schools to construct new sheds in their school grounds – allowing pupils to continue with their outdoor learning safe in the knowledge that their saplings and shovels are protected.
Both schools, which are part of the Eco-Schools programme, have undertaken a range of initiatives to teach pupils about environmental issues, and the new sheds will help the schools with furthering their pupils’ environmental education.
Megan Richardson, Project Manager at Brookfield Renewable UK, commented:
“Our ongoing engagement with the local community around proposals to develop Polquhairn Wind Farm, revealed the potential to help these local primary schools improve their outdoor space and support pupils in making sustainability an integral part of their school life.
We are delighted to support these projects and hope that our participation helps to demonstrate our commitment to the communities surrounding our wind farm sites.”
As part of the project, Brookfield Renewable UK worked with Ayrshire College to design and craft a bespoke shed for Littlemill Primary School.
